Custom Framing

Custom Framing

From photographs and artwork to sports jerseys, embroidery, crystal art, coins and the slightly more unusual things people bring through the door, we offer custom framing right here at Nimmo Gallery in Greymouth.

We have plenty of ready-made frames available off the shelf for simple standard sized photographs, or we can create something completely custom to suit the piece, your space and what you're wanting the finished result to look like.

And if it's something we've never framed before? Between Karl, our on-site framer, and Stew's creative brain, there's a pretty good chance we'll figure something out.

What can we frame?

The short answer is almost anything.

Photographs, fine art prints, paintings, drawings, embroidery, cross stitch, crystal art, certificates, sports jerseys, sporting memorabilia, medals, coins and keepsakes are all welcome.

Three-dimensional or unusual item? Bring it in. Some of our most interesting framing jobs start with “Do you reckon you could frame this?”

Made here in the gallery

Our custom framing is done on-site at our Greymouth gallery by Karl, with Stew regularly getting involved when a job needs a bit of creative problem solving.

We have a large range of frame mouldings and mat boards to choose from, so we can put together something that works with the piece rather than overpowering it.

If we don't have quite what you're after, we can also order in different mouldings or something more specific.

Conservation framing

What's behind the glass matters too.

We use conservation-quality products and materials where appropriate to help protect the things you're framing for the long term.

Karl or Stew can talk you through the options and recommend what makes sense for your particular piece. Not everything needs exactly the same treatment, so we'd rather help you choose what's right than simply sell you the most expensive option.

Glass options

We have several glass options available depending on what you're framing, where it will hang and how much protection you need.

Standard framing glass
A good everyday option for pieces that don't require additional UV protection or reflection control.

Conservation Clear UV99
Offers up to 99% UV protection, making it a good choice for artwork, photographs and pieces where fading and long-term preservation are a concern.

UltraVue UV70
Offers up to 70% UV protection along with reduced reflections, giving you a clearer view of the piece behind the glass.

Museum Glass
Our premium option, combining up to 99% UV protection with excellent reflection control. Particularly suited to valuable, sentimental or detailed pieces where you want maximum protection without feeling like you're looking through glass.

You don't need to know which one you need before you come in. We'll take into account the item itself, where it's going to live and what you're wanting from the finished piece, and help you choose.

Not sure what will look right?

That's part of what we're here for.

Bring your item into the gallery Monday to Friday (Fridays before 12pm) and Karl or Stew can lay out different mouldings and mat options with it, talk through where it's going to hang and help you find a combination that works.

You don't need to arrive knowing what frame, mat or glass you want. In fact, most people don't.

Quotes + custom jobs

We're happy to quote your framing job before going ahead.

Because every custom framing job is a little different, the best way to get an accurate price is to bring the actual item into the gallery. We can measure it properly, look at the framing options with you and work out exactly what's involved.

For unusual pieces, we'll also work out the best way to mount and display them safely before giving you a plan.

Already have something printed?

Bring it in.

Or, if you still need the printing part sorted, we also offer Photo Printing and Fine Art Printing right here in the gallery, which means we can take your image or artwork right through from file to finished frame.
